Harvia Plc, a global sauna specialist, and Toyota Motor Corporation have combined their expertise to develop what is believed to be the first hydrogen-powered sauna. This groundbreaking concept was introduced at the World Sauna Forum (4-5 June 2025) and at Rally Finland (31 July - 2 August 2025) in Jyväskylä.

By using hydrogen to heat the stoves, the system produces only steam and warm air, with zero CO2 emissions. Inspired by the traditional smoke sauna, the model recreates a gentle, enveloping heat while generating the characteristic löyly when water is poured over the stones.
"This collaboration with Toyota allows us to push the boundaries of sauna innovation and demonstrate our dedication to environmental responsibility," explains Timo Harvia, Head of Innovation and Technology at Harvia. "In doing so, we are not only exploring ways to minimize environmental impact but also creating a new kind of sauna experience that honors tradition while embracing the future."

For Toyota, the project highlights the potential of hydrogen across diverse applications and contributes to the wider goal of carbon neutrality.
Combining respect for tradition with a sustainable vision, the hydrogen sauna opens new perspectives for the future of wellness and clean energy.
