As part of its commitment to research and development applied to pool facilities, the exhibition will once again include the Piscina & Wellness Barcelona 2015 Awards for innovation and sustainability. All operational facilities in the sector that have been built or refurbished in the last two years, and all products on display at the show designed in accordance with innovation and sustainability criteria may compete for an award.
Sustainability and innovation geared to rational use of resources are the swimming pool industry's main conceptual and technical focus areas. Architects, builders and experts in the design and construction of pools for public and private use all agree that a sustainable pool combines three basic elements: maximum energy efficiency, use of eco smart materials and optimum environmental integration. Sustainability is not only based on using less aggressive disinfection systems, but also on the use of eco-sustainable – i.e. technologically recyclable – materials, and on effective use of home systems and increasingly efficient solutions to guarantee maximum energy savings and minimum consumption of natural resources such as water.
The jury, made up of professionals selected by the Catalonia Institute of Construction Technology (ITeC), will be choosing the winners in six different categories this year, two connected with product innovation and sustainability and four with design and refurbishment of facilities already in use.
The awards will consist of diplomas, to be presented at an evening event held on October 14 at the Piscina & Wellness Barcelona show (including EUSA AWARDS). Entrants can enter the competition via the website www.premiospiscinabcn.com until September 22.
Awards for the most innovative, sustainable products
The Piscina Barcelona 2015 Award for the most innovative product will go to a system or service that has used a new approach to the construction, use, maintenance or refurbishment of swimming pools, wellness centres or public pool facilities.
The award for the most sustainable product will be given to an item or process guaranteeing efficient use of resources (water, energy, raw materials) while preserving the environment throughout its lifecycle (manufacture, set-up, use, deconstruction and recycling).
The third and final Piscina & Wellness Barcelona 2015 Award is for construction companies, architecture studios, developers or technicians that have participated in the construction of residential pools, wellness centres, public pools and refurbished pools, with completion of the works between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2015.
