The Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association (SPATA) has announced the appointment of Amanda Thompson-Smith as the new Chair of the SPATA National Council, succeeding Jon Herbert. The announcement was made during the British Pool & Hot Tub Conference on 15 October 2025.
A new chapter of inclusive leadership and industry growth for SPATA
SPATA expressed its gratitude to Jon Herbert for his dedicated service, highlighting his strong leadership and commitment to upholding the association's values and advancing professionalism within the UK wet leisure sector.
Amanda, who joined the SPATA National Council in 2022, is currently Business Development Manager - Projects at AstralPool UK. With more than 20 years of experience in the wet leisure industry, she brings a wealth of expertise in strategic development, collaborative leadership, and industry engagement.
Her appointment comes at a key moment for SPATA, as the association continues its evolution through new branding, digital tools, and member-focused initiatives. Under Amanda's leadership, SPATA aims to strengthen its advocacy for technical excellence, training, and industry growth.
Beyond her professional achievements, Amanda is a strong advocate for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the wet leisure industry. As part of the BSPF EDI Working Group, she contributed to the development of the BSPF EDI Policy, now adopted by SPATA, and helped launch a nationwide EDI training initiative in collaboration with expert Refeia Zaman. This programme promotes inclusive leadership and wellbeing across all levels of the industry.
"It's a privilege to take on the role of SPATA Chair and build on the excellent work Jon has done," said Amanda. "SPATA plays a vital role in supporting its members and promoting best practice across the industry. I look forward to working with the National Council, our members, and partners to continue driving progress, innovation, and inclusivity."
Amanda's appointment was warmly received by attendees at the British Pool & Hot Tub Conference, where industry leaders gathered to discuss trends, share insights, and celebrate achievements. Her leadership is expected to bring renewed energy and focus to SPATA's mission of supporting its members and elevating standards across the UK's swimming pool and spa sector.
