For swimming that is healthy and safe, GACHES CHIMIE chooses formulas without boric acid for its chlorine tablets.

Based on stabilized chlorine, they require a «lubricant» to prevent them from sticking to the mould during compression. Up to now, the lubricants used the most frequently are boric acid, stearic acid and salts derived from it.  However, these have drawbacks for health, as they have been classified as toxic to fertility by the European Chemicals Agency.

Besides this, the use of alkali metal salts, stearic acid and sodium stearate produces unwanted deposits, insoluble residues and excessive amounts of lather.

GACHES CHIMIE therefore uses a pelletizing additive of mineral origin that does not have these disadvantages.  There is no chemical interaction between the lubricant and the active components of the tablets, so there is no degradation of the tablet.  Besides this, the tablet retains the required physical properties, such as hardness, flawless appearance, smoothness, homogeneity, etc., and its rate of dissolution stays the same.

This new additive is used in the same proportions (max 1%) as standard boric acid, so the tablets obtained are highly concentrated in chlorine with a low concentration of stabilizer.

These products of the Age de l’Eau® range can be identified by their logo, which also carries the words, «Without boric acid».
