Winners of the Piscina BCN 2011 Awards

 

The 2011 Piscina BCN Awards have winners: the Davinci Magnapool System water filter, from the Australian firm Poolrite Europe, and the Visendum ecological paving, from the Spanish company Comaclara Systems have been awarded the Prize for Innovation and the Prize for Sustainability, respectively. 

With regard to facilities in use, the Riera Vertix residential pool in Sant Vicenç Montalt, (Barcelona), the wellness centre of the Hotel S'Agaró Wellness & Spa (Girona) and the Toro municipal pool (Zamora) also received awards for being the most innovative in their category.

As at each edition, the show has presented the Piscina BCN Awards, the aim of which is to recognise the innovative spirit of companies and, at the same time, boost their investment in R&D&I.  On this occasion, and for the first time, the awards have been expanded to include work done in the last two years in the following categories: Residential Pools, Wellness Centres and Sports and Recreational Facilities.

The panel of judges, made up of professionals selected by the Catalan Institute of Construction Technology (ITeC), selected 5 winners from the 22 finalists. Over 70 firms from 20 countries participated in this year's awards with their works and products. In the elimination rounds, the judges assessed the application of an innovative approach and sustainability criteria (efficient use of resources and respect for the environment) in products and construction processes, use and maintenance of facilities.

A mineral water treatment system for swimming pools that combines every device in a single waterproof appliance.

Visendum

 

Visendum - Comaclara Systems

 

Visendum technological wood, Comaclara Systems
A new environmentally-friendly material for exterior flooring and decking made from recycled pine from clearing woods (70%) combined with recyclable resin. With a 25-year guarantee, it does not require treatment with oil or varnish and is resistant to atmospheric aggression.

Riera Vertix Swimming Pool

 


Award to Residential Pool:
Riera Vertix Swimming Pool (Sant Vicenç Montalt, Barcelona), by the architect Antonio Serrano and the construction company Construcciones Deportivas Condal. It received the award for intelligent use of the overflow channel, design simplicity and integration of both factors in the sequence of housing, garden and landscape spaces.

Award to Wellness Centre:
Hotel S'Agaró Wellness & Spa (S'Agaró, Girona), designed by the architects Marta Renom Carbonell and Gabriel Sibils Duval and built by FiljoD2 - Jampi. The judges highlighted the fact that "it demonstrates that sustainability is compatible with the very contained and austere image and how a wellness centre can give added value to a hotel".

Toro municipal pool


Award to sports and recreational facility: Toro municipal pool, Toro Town Council (Toro, Zamora), designed by Vier Arquitectos and built by Ferrovial Agromán, Rutherford Española, Kamari Sport Service, Carfer Sauna and Visendum, received the award for "the use of natural light, distribution of spaces and integration in the urban setting".

The names of the winners were announced on 19th of October, during a ceremony attended by impresarios, experts, professionals and other national and international figures from the sector.
